High-strength tool steel grade 1.2631 supplied for bars, rods, strip, wire and forged parts. This alloy is used where high tensile strength, good toughness and hardenability are required. Because the density (mass per unit volume) of steel changes with temperature and processing state, provide alloy designation, dimensions and required condition when requesting weight or pricing information.

- Elongation δ5: ≥ 14 %

- Annealing hardness: ≤ 229 HB
Heat treatment guidance (for specification and ordering):
- Hardening / quenching options: air cooling, furnace cooling, water quenching — specify required quench medium and cooling curve.
- Surface hardening (case hardening) suggested austenitizing temperature: 780–820 °C, followed by water quench for case formation.
- Through-hardening and carburizing are both possible depending on final part requirements.

Ordering and technical notes

- Provide alloy designation (1.2631), required geometry (length, diameter, thickness), tolerances, heat treatment state, certification (e.g., MTC), and quantity when requesting a quote.
- Final mechanical properties and hardness are subject to the steel mill’s test certificates. If tight mechanical or fracture toughness requirements apply, request mill test certificates and/or provide sample-size and test-method requirements.
