ASTM A53 carbon steel pipe suitable for structural, mechanical and pressure-line applications. Available in both seamless and welded construction, with black (plain) or hot-dip galvanized surface options and multiple protective coatings for corrosion resistance.

Key features

  • Standards: Manufactured to ASTM A53 / ASME SA-53 (also available to related ASTM/ASME/API requirements on request)
  • Construction: Seamless and welded (ERW/SAW) options
  • Nominal sizes: 1/2" NB up to 36" NB
  • Wall thickness: Typically 3–12 mm (custom thicknesses available within product limits)
  • Schedules: SCH 40, SCH 80, SCH 160, SCH XS, SCH XXS and other schedules on request
  • Surface finishes: Bare (as-rolled), oiled, mill varnish, hot-dip galvanized, FBE, dual FBE, 3LPE
  • End finishes: Beveled, square cut, threaded (other end preparations available on request)

Typical applications

  • Pressure and mechanical service such as steam, water, gas and air lines
  • Structural and fabrication uses including bending, flanging and welding
  • General-purpose piping and continuous-welded pipeline where ASTM A53 properties meet project requirements

Quality, inspection and documentation

  • Supply with Mill Test Certificates and chemical / mechanical reports
  • EN 10204 test documentation available as specified
  • PMI (positive material identification) reports, visual inspection, non-destructive testing and third-party inspection available on request

Coating and galvanizing note

ASTM A53 specifies minimum coating/galvanizing mass requirements typical for general pipe use. It does not include the broader appearance and adhesion requirements found in ASTM A123 (hot-dip galvanizing specification); if ASTM A123 compliance is required, confirm this at inquiry stage so galvanizing can be applied and inspected to that standard.
