Austenitic ASTM A240 Grade 316 stainless steel plate, sheet and bar engineered for demanding industrial and marine environments. Grade 316 is an austenitic stainless alloy that includes molybdenum (≈2–3%) in addition to chromium and nickel, providing superior resistance to chloride-induced pitting and corrosion compared with 304-series grades.

Key features

• Corrosion resistance: Excellent resistance to general corrosion and chloride pitting; suitable for marine atmospheres and many chemical processing environments.
• Mechanical/thermal behavior: Supplied typically in the annealed condition. A240 316 is not hardenable by heat treatment; strength and hardness are increased by cold working.
