ASTM A204 Grade C is a molybdenum-alloy steel plate intended for welded boilers and other pressure-vessel applications that require elevated-temperature strength. Grade C is the highest-strength, lower-ductility variant within the A204 family and is supplied in the as-fabricated condition (no temper or special treatment) to meet fabrication and welding requirements for pressure equipment.

Key product details

  • Alloy type: Molybdenum-alloy steel conforming to ASTM A204 requirements
  • Typical applications: Boiler and pressure-vessel plates, high-temperature and elevated-pressure components, welded pressure parts
  • Supply forms: Plates and coils (coil thickness ≤ 25 mm)

Available dimensions (typical ranges)

  • Thickness: 3 – 150 mm
  • Width: 1,220 – 4,200 mm
  • Length: 5,000 – 18,000 mm

Commercial and technical notes

  • Supplied as-fabricated; customers requiring heat treatment or tempering should specify those requirements at order placement
  • Commonly supplied with mill test certificates (MTC) and can be inspected or tested to customer specifications on request
  • Suitable for standard fabrication and welding practices for pressure-vessel steels; final selection should consider design temperature, required toughness, and applicable code requirements
  • Custom sizing, edge preparation, machining, and protective coatings available per project needs

Quality and compliance

Manufacture and supply can be arranged to meet recognized industrial quality controls and documentation (mill test reports, chemical and mechanical test results). Specify any additional certifications (e.g., third-party inspection, non-destructive testing) when requesting a quotation.
